Experience: I am a Missouri Licensed Professional Counselor. I have more than 12 years of experience working with children and adolescents with difficulties ranging from everyday stressors to significant disruptions (sexual, emotional, and physical abuse, abandonment, and various conduct issues) to serious mental disorders (ADHD, depression and bipolar disorder).
Education: I have a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. I have a Masters in Counseling from University of Missouri – St. Louis. I am trained in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and my post-graduate training includes the treatment of trauma, sexual abuse & aggression, PTSD, Self-Injury, Bipolar Disorder, and Crisis Intervention.
Counseling Philosophy: I use the prescriptive eclectic approach to psychotherapy, the clinician customizes psychological treatments and therapeutic relationships to the specific needs of individual patients. This is done by drawing on effective methods from across theoretical camps (eclecticism) and by matching those methods to particular cases on the basis of empirically supported guidelines (prescriptionism). The end result of prescriptive matching is a more efficient, applicable, and efficacious therapy that fits both the client and the clinician.
The features of prescriptive eclecticism are the synergy of awareness and action, the complementary nature of psychotherapy systems, and the identification of empirical markers for selecting psychological therapies. Awareness and action are reciprocally facilitative endeavors: Awareness informs and fuels concrete actions, action propels and deepens meaningful insights. Hence, for most patients, both awareness-oriented and action-oriented methods are indicated. All empirically supported systems of psychotherapy have a place in the repertoire of the eclectic therapist that is determined by prescriptive guidelines.
Prescriptive eclectic therapy offers an integrative structure for customizing the therapeutic endeavor. The therapy an open system in which therapists attempt to incorporate clinical research and wisdom. The prescriptive eclectic is flexible but systematic, creative and yet empirical, in tailoring psychotherapy to the individual in his or her singular situation.

These topics are considered as simply serving to further distance human beings from each other in a discriminating and disturbing manner. The preference is to accept each person as they are when in my presence and mindfully allow each to be their prismatic selves in each moment. Regardless of the words you choose to utilize in describing yourself to others, you are human and worthy of positive regard.
